July 12 2023 The Trinidad Triggers defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 20-12 after building an early lead and holding off Santa Fe’s late scoring. Trinidad collected 19 hits and scored seven runs in the first inning, then added three runs in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 14-4 advantage. The Triggers also scored twice in the sixth and four times in the seventh.
Jason Rooks led Trinidad with three hits, including a home run, and five RBI. Jacob Mitchell went 4-for-5 with two triples, three runs and three RBI, while David Arza had two hits, three runs and four RBI. Peter Bocchino added two hits, a home run and two RBI, and Samuel Guillorme scored four runs while collecting three hits and two RBI. Jordan Anderson and Quinterrious Arrington each had two hits.
Santa Fe answered with four runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the ninth, but could not erase the deficit. Karl Koeper and Jared Fry each had two hits and scored three and four runs, respectively. Maurice La Fon drove in two runs, while Ben Osborne also had two RBI. The Fuego finished with 11 hits and committed four errors, compared with three errors by Trinidad.
Spenser Dexter earned the win for Trinidad after allowing four hits and seven runs, four earned, in six innings. He walked seven and struck out five. Brian Cantu took the loss for Santa Fe, surrendering 11 hits and 13 runs, six earned, in four innings with one walk and no strikeouts. Trinidad’s pitchers combined for 11 hits allowed and nine strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
