Blackwell Flycatchers Outslug Santa Fe Fuego 18-12

July 23 2023 The Blackwell Flycatchers defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 18-12 behind a 23-hit offensive performance. Blackwell scored in each of the first six innings, building a 14-1 lead through four innings before Santa Fe mounted a late challenge. The Fuego scored six runs in the fifth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth, but could not close the gap.

Jaylon Thornton went 4-for-7 with four runs and five RBIs for Blackwell, while Jeff Fripp finished 5-for-6 with three runs and six RBIs. Thornton hit two home runs, and Fripp also homered twice. CJ Mervilus added two hits, two RBIs and a home run, while Ty Andrews hit a homer and drove in three runs. Blackwell also received two hits and two runs from Jack Skantze.

Santa Fe collected 17 hits, led by Alex Williams, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBIs and two home runs. Caine Agis had two hits and three RBIs, while Rafael Ramirez and Jared Fry each added two hits and two runs. Phillip Buckingham and Parker DePasquale also recorded two hits apiece.

Ramon Medina earned the win for Blackwell after allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits in 4.2 innings while striking out seven. Cameron Phillips followed with 3.1 innings, permitting five runs, three earned, on six hits with three strikeouts. Brian Cantu took the loss for Santa Fe after surrendering nine earned runs on 10 hits in 2.1 innings.
