The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the White Sands Pupfish 9-1 before a capacity crowd at Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe. Zach Carter gave the Fuego a quality six inning start allowing only one run at Fort Marcy Park.

The Magic returned to Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe. The Fuego began their 6th season hosting the White Sands Pupfish in front of a full house. Zach Carter gave the Fuego a quality six inning start allowing only one run at Fort Marcy Park.

Aaron Stublefield and David Stone each had three hits. Matt Haskins had a key two run homer. Matt Telasco had a bases clearing double for the Fuego. The Fuego managed 14 hits in total. Dylan Norris pitched 1-2/3 innings. Hunter Pearson pitched one inning.

2017 will be the 6th season for the Fuego at Historic Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe. In 2014 the Santa Fe Fuego won the Pecos League Championship. The Santa Fe Fuego and White Sands Pupfish will play the Pecos League Opener on May 24th at Fort Marcy Park.

The Santa Fe Fuego will play in the Mountain Division of the Pecos League against the Garden City Wind, Trinidad Triggers, Roswell Invaders, White Sands Pupfish and Alpine Cowboys.

The Detroit Tigers have signed Omar Artsen to a minor league contract for the 2017 season. Artsen spent the 2016 season in his second stint with the Santa Fe Fuego. After winning the championship in 2014 Artsen signed a minor league contract with the Miami Marlins. Omar holds the all time Pecos League Stolen Base Record when he stole 52 bases in 2014.

TJ Zarewicz will return to Santa Fe

TJ Zarewicz will return to Santa Fe to manage the Fuego for the 2017 season. TJ was the Fuego"s opening day starting pitcher in 2016. He served the middle part of the season as a player/manager.

"I am ready to bring Santa Fe back to the level that the fans except. 2016 was a bad year but 2017 will be better."

The Fuego begin Spring Training on May 10, 2017. Regular season begins on May 18th against the Trinidad Triggers.
